There is no specific law preventing child marriage. In the Child Act 2008, a child is defined as under the age of 18, and there are provisions to protect children from early and forced marriage. Although the act of kidnap/abduction for the purpose of early or forced marriage is criminalised, child marriage itself is not. The age of consent is 18, but rape within a marriage is not a crime.

CAN MARRIED OR PREGNANT GIRLS GO TO SCHOOL?

Article 26 of the 2008 Child Act states that "No female child shall be expelled from school due to pregnancy or motherhood or hindered from continuing her education after one year of lactation."
