SOBRE A LEI E QUAISQUER EXCEÇÕES
The Family Code states that minors who are at least 16 years old can be married with judicial permission, given in an out-of-court procedure. However, the Criminal Code states that an adult cohabiting with a minor under 16 will not be prosecuted if a marriage has taken place. Without a marriage, the adult can be prosecuted, and may be given a custodial sentence.
