Law(s) which govern marriage and/or child marriage:
Family Code 2004 (amended 2013)
ABOUT THE LAW AND ANY EXCEPTIONS
In 2013, Armenia raised the minimum age for marriage to 18 for both men and women; previously it had been 17 for women and 18 for men. However, this amendment also added new exceptions, including permission to marry at 17 with parental consent, and permission to marry at 16 if the other spouse is 18 and with parental consent.
Armenia's Constitution states that persons belonging to national minorities shall have the right to preserve and develop their traditions, religion, language and culture. This may be interpreted to mean that cultural or customary practices which allow child marriage are allowed to continue. However, the clause following this states that such practices will be regulated by law.
