ABOUT THE LAW AND ANY EXCEPTIONS
In 2017 several measures were adopted by the government to strengthen laws against gender-based violence, including raising the minimum age for marriage to 18 with no exceptions. In addition, the Penal Code includes custodial sentences for anyone who marries in the knowledge they are breaking the law.

Two different laws protect the right to education for pregnant and parenting girls, which prevent schools from disciplining or sanctioning girls who are pregnant, and which ensure the provision of support for girls to complete basic education.
