ABOUT THE LAW AND ANY EXCEPTIONS

CAN MARRIED OR PREGNANT GIRLS GO TO SCHOOL?

The Family Code allows individuals under the age of 18 to marry with special court permission, and only one year younger than the legal age of 18. In November 2016, amendments to the Criminal Code introduced provisions criminalising the forcing of individuals under 17 into marital relationships. Article 155-1 specifically penalises those involved in conducting or participating in religious marriage ceremonies with minors in violation of legal age requirements, with penalties ranging from 3 to 5 years of imprisonment.

No explicit law prevents or protects the right to education for married, pregnant, or parenting girls.
