ABOUT THE LAW AND ANY EXCEPTIONS

The Islanders Marriage Act allows for marriage at the age of 15 with parental consent. However, the Act also recognises customary marriages, which have no minimum age. In 2014, the Solomon Islands stated in its presentation to the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) that the Law Reform Commission had yet to review the marriage laws, despite this recommendation being made in 1995. In 2018, the Committee on the Rights of the Child also noted the Solomon Islands had yet to revise its laws to ban child marriage.
