Lao PDR has conflicting laws on child marriage. The Civil Code 2020 states that the legal age of marriage is 18, and subsequent articles state that a marriage where a spouse is below the age of 18 has grounds for nullifiction. However, the Family Law of 1990 allows marriage at the age of 15 in special and necessary cases, and this clause was not repealed with the advent of the Civil Code.
