27 November is now the International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage
On 4 September 2026, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a landmark resolution establishing 27 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage — every year, for every child.
The 193-member UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution creating a permanent global platform to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals and strengthen action for the health, education and protection of children — especially girls.
This day's resolution was led by H.E. Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone and President of OAFLAD. A survivor herself, she has altered the course of history through her advocacy, leadership and constant efforts for a better future for the children around the world.

Constitutions, many national laws, and the United Nations have all banned child marriage, but it will only be eliminated when every community also takes a stand and when all girls and boys know their rights.

The 100 Days of Action to End Child Marriage began in 2025 as a global mobilisation in the lead-up to International Women’s Day and the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. Over 100 days, communities, young people, faith leaders, educators, civil society organisations and survivor-advocates across nearly 100 countries came together to raise awareness, make pledges and advocate for stronger protections for children.
