RESOURCES FOR LOCAL EVENTS

Once you have taken the pledge, please consider organising an event in your local area. Local pledging events at a school or place of worship, engaging decision makers or raising awareness in your local community can all help end child marriage.

The campaign has developed some resource packs for you.  They are filled with ideas and tips from people who have also organised events against child marriage, but are only a guide - you know your community best and should decide the actions and messages that will work best for the people you know.

School Pledge Events - focused on supporting those children, teachers, and parents who want to make a commitment against child marriage to hold a joint event. These help understanding the harms of child marriage and making a joint commitment to prevent it. It is very flexible, schools can organize morning assemblies, pledge-taking ceremonies, discussions, or poster activities.

Faith Leader Messages and Events - building on the successful global interfaith weekend to end child marriage, a pack is available to help you grow a network of supportive faith leaders and child marriage free places of worship. Ideas include Faith leaders reading messages during services or sermons, discussing the impact of child marriage in small community gatherings, and displaying “Child Marriage Free” signs outside or in temples, churches, mosques, and other religious spaces (printed or written in chalk).

Engaging Decision Makers - this pack is for supporters who want to approach local government representatives such as district officers, councilors, police leadership, or women and child welfare departments to support efforts to end child marriage in your community and maybe even take a public pledge against child marriage. Officials can be invited to endorse the pledge, speak at local events, or participate in public awareness activities.

Community Messages - This pack shares examples of how individuals, youth groups, women’s groups, and community volunteers can share simple messages through local meetings, street plays, posters, wall signs, marketplace announcements, or social media posts.
