ABOUT THE LAW AND ANY EXCEPTIONS
The Civil Code was amended in 2006 to raise the minimum age for marriage for girls from 9 to 13. However, marriage before the legal ages of 13 and 15 is permitted if both parental and judicial consent are given. Women and girls who have never been married must have permission of a male guardian or the court to marry.
