Law(s) which govern marriage and/or child marriage:

Personal Status Law 2019 (amended)

ABOUT THE LAW AND ANY EXCEPTIONS

In 2019, amendments to Syria's Personal Status Law made the legal age of marriage 18 for both women and men, and 15 with judicial consent. The Personal Status Law applies to Muslims, and due to Syria's religious diversity, personal laws for each religion are also recognised. All of the state-recognised laws pertaining to family and personal matters are religious laws, although during the war, the Kurdish authorities began recognising civil marriage. The fall of the Assad regime (2024) will likely result in a revised constitution and family laws.
