ABOUT THE LAW AND ANY EXCEPTIONS
Children aged 16 can marry with parental consent. In addition, the Civil Code also recognises 'de facto' unions where the two people are over the age of 19, but can prove they have been cohabiting for at least three years. This enables legal recognition of a union which may have commenced when a child was below the age of 16.
