Supporting Teachers to Protect Childhood and Shape Futures
Teachers are often the first to notice when a child is at risk—and the first to help them choose a different future.
Here we have put together resources, guidance, and simple actions to help teachers support students and communities in preventing child marriage.
Recognizing Early Signals of Child Marriage
As a teacher you may notice:
· Sudden drop in attendance
· Withdrawal from class participation
· Conversations about leaving school early
· Pressure related to family responsibilities
If something feels concerning, seek guidance from:
· Parents of the child
· Authorities like Police (if there is a law against Child marriage)
· NGOs who work against Child marriage or for child protection
What You Can Do as a Teacher
In the Classroom
· Encourage open conversations about education, aspirations, and choice
· Integrate discussions on age-appropriate life skills and rights
· Promote the value of continuing education for all children
In the School Community
· Engage parents through meetings and informal conversations
