27 November is now the International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage
On 4 September 2026, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a landmark resolution establishing 27 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage — every year, for every child.
The 193-member UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution creating a permanent global platform to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals and strengthen action for the health, education and protection of children — especially girls.
The call for this day was first raised by Bhuwan Ribhu, Founder of Just Rights for Children, at the UN Commission on the Status of Women in March 2026, and carried forward by the leadership of H.E. Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone and President of OAFLAD.
