Community Dialogue in Mawanda Strengthens Action to End Child Marriage

A community engagement held in the Mawanda Community in Lusaganzi District, Zambia, brought together 120 participants, including 90 adults and 30 children, to discuss and address child marriage. The session was led by faith leader Rev. Munadana Munde and concluded with 46 participants taking a pledge to support efforts to end child marriage.

The engagement focused on raising awareness about the causes and consequences of child marriage, with particular attention to its impact on children’s education, health, and future opportunities. Community members were encouraged to reflect on existing practices and explore practical ways to protect children’s rights, particularly those of girls, within the community.

The participation of the District Chairperson of Lusaganzi District further strengthened the engagement, highlighting the importance of leadership and community responsibility in addressing child marriage.

By bringing together adults and children, the session supported intergenerational dialogue and shared learning around child protection. The programme formed part of the 100 Days of Action to End Child Marriage, contributing to ongoing community led efforts to build a child marriage free future in Zambia.
