80 community members pledged to end child marriage during a faith-based engagement held on 4 January 2026 at Full Gospel Churches of Kenya, Getengereiri, in Kisii County. The event brought together 30 adults, 20 youth, and 30 children, alongside religious leaders and community facilitators, as part of Child Marriage Free World’s 100 Days of Action to End Child Marriage.

Grounded in faith and collective responsibility, the session focused on strengthening community understanding of child marriage and the shared role of families, churches, and local systems in preventing it. Discussions explored the biblical foundation for protecting children, the harmful effects of child marriage, the importance of education, and the critical role parents and guardians play in safeguarding children’s futures. Participants also engaged with referral pathways, highlighting how timely reporting and coordinated action can prevent harm and support children at risk.

The engagement underscored that ending child marriage cannot be achieved by one person or institution alone. Through guided reflections and dialogue, participants examined how churches, families, schools, health services, and government actors can work together to protect children and respond effectively when risks arise. The message was clear: prevention through awareness, early support, and collaboration saves lives and futures.

Faith leaders played a central role throughout the session, reinforcing the idea that children are a gift and a shared responsibility. Participants reflected on how faith teachings can inspire love, courage, and unity, and how reporting or referring a case of child marriage is not betrayal but an act of care and protection. In recognition of their commitment to child protection, eight religious leaders received certificates for speaking out against child marriage within their communities.

Practical support was also integrated into the day’s activities. Twenty-four sanitary towels were distributed to girls as they prepared to return to school, reinforcing the link between dignity, education, and protection. Refreshments were provided for all participants, and transport reimbursement supported the participation of church leaders and community facilitators, ensuring inclusive engagement.

The event concluded with a powerful moment of collective commitment, as all 80 participants took the pledge to end child marriage, affirming their role as protectors and advocates for children. Supported by community changemakers, including Miss Akumu Jael (Team Lead), Miss Venny Akoth, and Miss Morine Mogaka, the engagement marked another step forward in mobilising faith communities across Kenya to stand for children’s rights.

As Child Marriage Free World continues the 100 Days of Action, this gathering in Kisii County reaffirmed a core truth: when communities come together with faith, knowledge, and resolve, child marriage can be prevented and ended.
