As part of the 100 Days of Action to End Child Marriage, a faith leader engagement took place in Uganda, led by Mr. Lutwama Aaron. The engagement highlighted the important role of religious leadership in protecting children from early and forced marriage.
The meeting brought together two faith leaders, Mr. Kirumira Joseph and Ms. Achieng Rachael of Phaneroo Ministries International, who serve the Mpigi community. The discussion focused on strengthening faith-based advocacy within congregations and surrounding communities.
Participants reflected on how religious teachings can support child protection, uphold dignity, and encourage positive cultural practices that safeguard children’s rights. The engagement explored practical ways faith leaders can influence attitudes and behaviours, including addressing child marriage during faith gatherings, counselling parents, and guiding families toward education-focused decisions for their children.
The session reinforced the responsibility of faith institutions to act as trusted voices within communities and to contribute to sustained efforts to end child marriage in Uganda.
