On 18 January 2026, a Child Marriage Free World awareness event brought together 140 community members, including 95 adults and 45 children, in Luamba Village, Sinda District, Zambia, with 45 participants taking a public pledge to help end child marriage in their community.
The community engagement was grounded in the Christian faith and focused on raising awareness about the harmful effects of child marriage and the shared responsibility to protect children’s rights. Village Headmen played an active role in the programme, lending local leadership and support to discussions that encouraged collective action and accountability.

Through open dialogue and faith based messaging, participants reflected on how child marriage affects children’s health, education, and future opportunities. The session created space for both adults and children to engage with the issue, reinforcing the importance of community wide involvement in prevention and protection.
The event concluded with a strong moment of commitment, as participants pledged to speak out against child marriage and support efforts to safeguard children in Luamba Village. The engagement reflected growing community ownership of the issue and a shared determination to build a future where children can grow, learn, and thrive free from early and forced marriage.
