On 15 January 2026, AGAPAO VISION DRC convened a community awareness workshop focused on ending child marriage, bringing together mothers and women who are part of the organisation’s support group. The session created a dedicated space for women to reflect on the realities of child marriage in their communities and to strengthen their role in prevention and protection.

The discussion centred on the harms and long term consequences of child marriage for girls, including its impact on health, education, and future opportunities. Participants shared experiences from their own communities and examined how everyday decisions within families can either reinforce or challenge harmful practices.

Facilitators guided the group through practical and accessible ways to prevent child marriage at household and community levels. Emphasis was placed on early dialogue within families, supporting girls to remain in school, and speaking out when a child is at risk.

In total, 30 women took part in the workshop. By the close of the session, 20 participants had taken the pledge to stand against child marriage, committing to raise awareness, challenge harmful norms, and support children and families in their communities.

The workshop highlighted the important role women play as caregivers, advocates, and community leaders in advancing collective efforts toward a child marriage free Democratic Republic of the Congo.
